Introducing the Columbarium
A columbarium for the inurnment of cremated remains has been approved by the Congregation Council for eventual placement on our property. Manufactured by Eickhof Columbaria of Crookston, MN, the columbarium is a beautiful granite structure, standing 7’ 11’ tall with a 6’ 7” diameter. It will be situated in the wooded area just north of the St. Andrew’s Meadow – between 16th Street and our parking lot. Surrounded by White Pines, this area will be conducive to meditation and reflection.
How has the columbarium become a reality at St. Andrew’s?
The conversation and discernment concerning creating a space for cremains on the church property began many years ago and has been ongoing ever since. With more people becoming familiar with what a columbarium is and expressing an interest, the Congregation Council formed a team to explore the concept and to come up with a possible plan. When a plan, including costs of purchasing and installing a columbarium, was presented to the Council, the Council approved being able to receive funding for this project through donations and the selling of inurnment rights.
Is the columbarium being financed by St. Andrew’s?
No. In essence, the columbarium is a gift to the church funded by those who use it, as well as those who make special financial gifts. Per St. Andrew’s practice and policy this project, like all projects, must be fully funded prior to it becoming reality. Pre-sale of inurnment rights is the primary way the columbarium is being funded. These funds will be accumulated in a dedicated fund until such time as this project is fully funded.
